    Gradbach Mill

Gradbach Mill… A blog post by our very own Lois Rowlands of Lois Photography. The Mill is a distinctive building sitting on the banks of River Dane.  Gradbach Mill is full of a rich history and heritage, there was a time when it served as a silk spinning mill. However, it has since been refurbished into a venue with accommodation.  On the 16-acre land surrounding it, you get access to the most beautiful scenery in the Peak District. Karen and James’ wedding was the first wedding photographed at this venue… EVER!  I was extremely excited they found me to photograph their big day of celebrations. <<<Virgin Atlantic meets British Airways!!>>> The wonderful wedding day wouldn’t have been possible if Karen and James had not met in Accra, Ghana. It was a chance meeting given the two worked for different airlines.  James is a pilot with the British Airways while Karen is an air hostess with Virgin Atlantic.  The two had flown on separate flights to the West African nation when a chance meeting happened in a random bar.  Of course, each had come here to while away time over a drink.  Hardly did they know that this would develop into a life together surrounded by sheep!!  The couple’s home is Foxbank Farm where they breed Castlemilk Moorit sheep.  Foxbank Farm is one of the last few places you will find

    Traditionally Handmade Wedding Rings

Why not have bespoke wedding & engagement rings, traditionally handmade in the beautiful Peak District? Many jewellers these days use Computer Aided Design, CAD, to produce their work. Although this is great for some things it takes the personal “just for you” feeling out of your special piece of jewellery and once designed on CAD the design can be re used again & again or even mass produced. Having rings handmade using traditional techniques means your ring is a true one off. Sentimental jewellery can also be re melted and the metal used in your ring as well as the stones, keeping those memories alive. Ian Mortimore trained & worked for many years in London’s Hatton Garden becoming a Freeman of the Goldsmiths Livery Company. During this time he was often making jewellery for prestigious companies such as Cartier, Asprey and Garrards, having to work to very high standards. By cutting out the shop & coming straight to a goldsmith will not only you save money but your wedding rings can be truly unique. For more information on what Ian Mortimore could do for your big day, please call him on 01629 636826, visit www.imjewellery.com or find him on Facebook at IM Jewellery

Lots of brides find that when it comes to buying a wedding ring plain bands don’t sit very comfortably against their engagement ring. What are the options? Many shops will try to sell you something that almost fits or they will post your engagement ring to a faceless workshop miles away, meaning you are without it for weeks. This need not be the case. Ian Mortimore can hand make a fitted wedding ring specifically to fit your engagement ring making them a perfect set. And he may only need your engagement ring for as little as a few hours. The delighted bride & groom have since been central to photo- shoots, radio interviews & on the arisen – glossy magazine’s & more. “Kyle and I have been together 7 years” Sarah explains. “The only reason we didn’t marry years ago is due to our financial situation. Money has always been very sparse, as we’ve run a household on two modest jobs. When we entered the win a wedding competition I knew deep down I shouldn’t pin all my hopes on the possibility of winning, & in turn being able to marry the love of my life.” It was upon arrival to The Peaks & Dales vibrant valentines/February 2015 wedding exhibition, located in the grand Devonshire Dome, where the excitable couple signed in. They were then invited to participate in an informal interview, with the

    One Delicious Day

When Riviera Couture Cake Company’s work was selected via The Baking Industry Awards this June, I (little ‘newby’ me) was utterly elated! My work as a new comer & self taught cake artist/connoisseur started as a delicious passion just over 2 years ago, & has some how spiraled – Riviera are now amongst the final 8 contestants throughout the UK & Ireland, to potentially receive an award in London for 2015! A challenge/brief has now been set for all 8 finalist..Once the brief is complete, & a meeting & judging process has taken place – I shall hopefully have more scrumptious news for you all! To share this fizzzpoppppsnappp moment with you all in full, I of course feel the overwhelming  & giddy need to share, a little something more with you…….CAKE!! YES, cake….A cake that has not only helped Riviera couture reach out to others in many ways (within passion, taste & art), though a cake which has featured in many of The Peak District calendar’s of 2015 (still available to order via Riviera Couture) Allow me to introduce Ciello (Male snowy owl) – Ciello is a representation of heaven & his name is an Italian representation of this. He was sculpted out of Riviera’s luxury fruit cake (my secret sticky toffee fruit cake recipe). Ciello has over 100 individual hand crafted sugar feathers & is half the size
